Lest we forget! Agent reveals D-Day branch window tribute

Harrisons Homes has created a 1940s-themed branch window at its office in Sittingbourne to mark the 80th anniversary of D Day.

It comes after the agent has previously wowed the town with Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s and Easter-themed displays.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, Harrisons wanted to create an uplifting but respectful tribute.

It collaborated with Cadell from Studio Lockington to come up with what it describes as a “fun and fancy 40’s themed window.”

It features 1940’s pin up girls in the colours of the Union Flag. In contrast, handwritten on the number ‘80’ are the names of the beaches from the D-Day landings and faint shadows of planes and boats in the background, a poignant reminder of what took place on that day.

Cadell said: “When designing Harrison’s D-Day 80th anniversary window, I really wanted to capture the aesthetic of the 1940’s in a celebratory way.”

Harrisons owner Chris Ellis added: “The feedback we get from our window designs is fantastic, but the reaction to this one has been incredible and entirely positive. I think the combination of the vintage theme, bold characters and colours catches the eye.

“Then you are drawn in to the moving tribute of all five beaches, Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword where the landings during D-Day took place, being handwritten into the ‘80’, a stark reminder of what took place in 1944”
